Claremore is rocking it with events happening all over town. To kick it off the J.M. Davis Arms & Historical Museum will host the High Noon Wild West Shoot Out on May 4. Experience the old west brought by the Tri-State Gunfighters dressed in 1870’s authentic clothing and using the guns of the day. This month the cowboys will have a 21-gun salute to the American Flag and will reenact a gun fight in the street and a bank robbery.

It wouldn’t be May in Claremore without the thrill of live horse racing at the Cherokee Casino Will Rogers Downs! It is Thoroughbred Racing at its finest every Monday, Tuesday and Saturday in May. May 4th Will Rogers Downs will celebrate the Kentucky Derby with Derby Day. Dress in your finest Derby Hat and enjoy racing with post time at 1:15pm.

Will Rogers Downs will also host the monthly Lawnmower Races on may 18th starting at 5pm, gearing up for the Midwest Regional Lawnmower Races coming in June. Then on May 20 be sure to head out to the track and meet the Budweiser Clydesdales. More information about events at the Racino can be found at

The PRCA Award Winning Will Rogers Stampede PRCA Rodeo returns May 23-26. The rodeo is the 5-time winner of the PRCA’s Small Rodeo of the Year, for the fifth year in a row. The award is unprecedented and broke all records in both Oklahoma and the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association when they received the honor for the 2018 year.

To kick off the 73rd Stampede Claremore Main Street and the City of Claremore will host the Downtown Hoe-Down, a street festival in historic downtown Claremore. The old fashion street fair will host food trucks, live entertainment, activities for the kiddos such as a mechanical bull and pony rides. Many of the Main Street Merchants will be open late that evening for those enjoying the evening out. The event is from 6pm to 9pm; all activities are free.

The Clem McSpadden Tub-Handle Classic Steer Roping will open that night starting at 7pm with the best of the best in Steer Roping. Gates open at 6pm, concessionaires on hand, and plenty of entertainment with Cody Sosbee, official Barrel Man and Rodeo Clown.

Pure rodeo action starts off each night Memorial Weekend, May 24-26 7:00pm, gates open at 6pm. Each night features all the favorite performances such as bull riding, mutton bustin’, team roping, barrel racing, bronc riding and of course lots of clowning around with Sosbee. Advance tickets are $15 for adults, $7 for children 12 and under and can be found online at, or in person at any Claremore location of RCB Bank, Stillwater Milling, Mid-Town Rentals, and BancFirst.
