The Turkey Trot Comes to Town
Friday, November 23, 2012- The 13th annual OKC Turkey Trot, previously held on Thanksgiving morning, has moved to Friday, November 23rd so participants can walk/ run off their Thanksgiving meal. The new location is downtown at the newly renovated Myriad Gardens. Additionally and new this year, after the running events there will be a family fun day on the great lawn of the Myriad Gardens. There will be face painting, inflatable bounce houses, sack races, and all kinds of games. The Myriad Gardens will also give discounts to Turkey Trot participants for the Botanical Gardens and the ice rink.
New this year will be participation of the Special Olympians in the 200 yard run and a family fun day in the park.
Bruce Holmes, chair of this year’s event, believes this new venue will become a wonderful tradition in our community and encourages young and old to participate.
The proceeds of this year’s Turkey Trot will go to the Eagle Ridge Institute’s family strengthening programs, such as the residential substance abuse treatment center for women with their children. And the therapeutic foster care program; and the Special Olympics of Oklahoma Capitol Area that continues to inspire, uplift, and support all persons with intellectual disabilities to become useful and productive citizens, gaining respect and acceptance from family, friends, and their community.

7:00 A.M. – 8:15 A.M- On-site registration
8:00 A.M. – 200 yard children’s/ youth run (including Special Olympics)
8:15 A.M. – One mile Wobble run/walk
8:40 A.M. – Dorothy Herring Memorial 5K Race
9:00 A.M. – Award Ceremony
9:00 A.M. – 12:00 A.M. – Fun activities in the Park
