Mouth-watering lip color goes bold for summer!

Come on, try it. Drench your lips in it. Give bright, delicious, mouth-watering orange a test drive next time you head out.  It’s the hottest color of the season, a bold change from all the pinks and nudes that usually grab attention this time of year.

“I like orange for summer,” said makeup artist Sharon Tabb, who is moving back to Oklahoma from California. As beauty director for Zooey magazine, Tabb has worked with several celebrities, including Paris Hilton, Harrison Ford and Mario Lopez. She has been the personal makeup artist for Gretchen Bonaduce since 2005.

What she likes about orange lipstick is that it looks good on most women. Orange lipstick makes green eyes pop. It’s a good constrast for blue eyes and is striking for brown eyes. And, yes, it’s also flattering for redheads.

The secret to wearing orange is to keep your eye makeup simple and clean, maybe a neutral eye or just a touch of gold shimmer, Tabb said. Opt for soft peach or sunkissed blush on the cheeks. Warm up your eyes and cheeks, even if your skin tone is cool. Tabb said she has cool skin tones, but she can rock orange lipstick.

When applying orange lipstick, she suggests shaping your lips with a neutral lip liner, then use a use a lip brush for precise application.

Still timid? Orange gloss is more forgiving, especially if you don’t have time to touch up or check a mirror once in a while. “Orange is similar to red,” Tabb said. “Anytime you have bold lips, you have to stay on top of it throughout the day.”

Peach lipstick is another option for those not ready to fully commit, but it doesn’t deliver the same punch as orange.

“Just go for a bold lip,” Tabb said. “You’ve just got to go for it. I love it. I’m so in to it right now.”
