Spring break events starting Monday

Events throughout March

Oklahoma City, OK — March is one of our favorite months of the year in the Myriad Botanical Gardens! Our very popular Oklahoma Garden School returns March 11, and it’s reaching a sellout. We have fun events including Adventure Week March 13-16 during Spring Break and St. Patrick’s Day fun on Friday, March 17.  Great classes are happening like the Seed Starting with Gardens’ executive director Maureen Heffernan. Spring classes for kids; walking tours, yoga and more! We’re also introducing a new Crystal Bridge floral exhibit Kaleidoscope of Colors that’s sure to wow visitors.

Monday, March 13 through Thursday, March 16, 10am – 2pm

Adventure Week at the Gardens!

Pavilion & Lawn, Children’s Garden and Crystal Bridge

Member Children $13; Adult FREE (per day)

The weather is warming, the sun is shining and the flowers are blooming! Come celebrate Spring Break with us. Each day we will have hands-on activities and workshops under the pavilion and pavilion lawn. Join us inside the Crystal Bridge Tropical Conservatory Discovery Room to find your inner builder, scientist, or detective. Then try your luck at our scavenger hunt inside the Crystal Bridge Tropical Conservatory that houses more than 2,500 plants. End the afternoon with a trip to our outdoor Children’s Garden. Food trucks will be onsite during the lunch hour.

Go Green, St. Patrick’s Day in the Gardens

Face painting costs vary depending on design

May the luck of the Irish be with you as we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. The fun begins with a performance by the Oklahoma Scottish Pipes and Drums followed by a performance by Hill Irish Dance School. Create festive crafts, learn about Irish heritage and enjoy some on our Sheridan Lawn. Find out where our silly leprechaun hid the Garden’s pot of gold, listen to fun fiddling tunes by Casey and Min, and don’t forget to wear green!

Come out and celebrate the start of spring with your family. We’ll learn about: bulb flowers that start off the season; dissect a bulb; and then each pot one up to take home. We’ll finish by creating a paper kite to go out and fly.

Bringing Gardens to Life

Last Wednesday of each month

Stick around after Reading Wednesdays for this fun indoor activity that brings gardens to life, even when it’s cold outside! We will make a nature-based, take-home craft that relates to the book. For this Bringing Gardens To Life we’ll make names in nature. For groups of 10 or more call Lily Christman at (405) 445-5162.

Starting your own plants from seed is fun, easy and a great way to save money on plants for your garden.  In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to start annual flowers, vegetables and herbs, the best way to take care of your seeds as they grow and many more tips, techniques and tools helpful in seed starting.  All participants will plant up a variety of edible and flower seeds to take home and grow.

Myriad Botanical Gardens’ annual Oklahoma Gardening School is the state’s premier annual horticultural symposium designed for home gardeners and professional horticulturists, garden designers and landscape architects. The Oklahoma Gardening School showcases local and national experts in gardening, plant selection and garden design.  Their illustrated talks and Q&A discussions help participants learn how to create and maintain more beautiful, sustainable and successful gardens in Oklahoma. Speakers will discuss how to select and attractively layer heights, shapes, colors, textures and bloom times of ground covers, perennials, shrubs and trees and grow them sustainably to save water and be environmentally-friendly to soil life, pollinators and other wildlife.

Myriad Gardens presents a unique perspective on the colors of spring in its new orchid and spring flower show. Hundreds of orchids, spring flowers, and colorful tropicals in a rainbow of colors will be on display in exciting exhibits and arrangements that will dazzle the eye. Outside of the conservatory, see thousands more tulips, daffodils and other spring bulbs in our biggest celebration of spring ever!

Join one of our knowledgeable tour guides on a stroll through this year’s spring show. Learn all about the colorful orchids and tropical plants that make up the whimsical displays in the conservatory and how they use color to attract pollinators. You will also have the opportunity to see our unique and colorful outdoor bulb displays and learn how to use spring bulbs to add some color to your own garden.

In this class, learn how to create a garden that will be attractive to you and pollinators. We’ll discuss ways to attract pollinators (insects, butterflies and birds) to your yard so that you have an explosion of flower color and an influx of all your favorite pollinators this spring and summer! Make a morning of it and join us beforehand for the Gardens Walking Tour at 10am.

Join us to expand your Oklahoma plant knowledge and get great ideas for your yard. Each month changes as the plants grow through the seasons; in March we’ll discuss plants for water conservation. Can’t make it for the guided tour? Pick up a self-guided handout in our South Lobby.

This is a great all-levels class led by Lisa Woodard. Class participants should bring a yoga mat and water. Classes will meet in the south lobby for check-in each week. Drop in for a session or two or enjoy the entire series!

Want to get keep your kids and yourself active during the winter months? Come to the Gardens each week for a fun family yoga course. Class participants should bring a yoga mat and water. This isn’t just for kids; this is for the ENTIRE family. Come, exercise and unwind from the day together. Classes will meet in the south lobby for check-in each week.
